Tour Uros Floating Islands and Taquile by speedboat

The Uros Floating Islands, located in the bay of Lake Titicaca, are a remarkable example of human adaptation in the Andean highlands. Believed to be one of the oldest ethnic groups in the region, the Uros are of pre-Inca origin, and their native language is Aymara.

Taquile Island is steeped in history and culture. Once part of the Inca Empire, the Taquileños adopted many agricultural and architectural traditions from the Incas. These traditions are still preserved today, such as the agricultural terraces used to cultivate potatoes, quinoa, oca, and more. The community continues to live by the Andean principles of Yachay (teaching), Munay (loving), and Llankay (working), emphasizing reciprocity and communal organization. To this day, the island is inhabited by Quechua-speaking groups.

Taquile’s Textile Art: Taquile is world-renowned for its skilled weavers, whose craft dates back to ancient civilizations such as the Incas, Pukara, and Colla. Watch the intricate hand-weaving process of chullos (traditional Andean hats) and cchumpis (calendar belts) adorned with colorful symbols. These high-quality textiles, reflecting the community’s unique identity, are recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
